Parents, carers and the community

As a parent or carer, you are an important part of our school community. We offer a range of services to support you and your family.

Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C)

Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising.

Counselling for families

Interpreting and translations

We will help you communicate with our school. If you’d like an interpreter for a school meeting, let us know and we will arrange one, if available.

If you don’t speak or understand English well and want to contact us, call TIS National on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the school and get an interpreter to help. This service is free.

For more information, listen in your language.

Visit the department’s translated documents section for important information that’s relevant for your child’s education in many languages.

Bathurst Public School enjoys a supportive school community. We have an active P&C and welcome and value parents as partners in the education of their children.

Parents and Citizens' Association

The P&C meets each month on the third Wednesday between 7:00 and 9:00p, in the Staffroom.  The P&C is made up of parents, caregivers, teachers and friends of the the students of the school.  The p&C aims to promote the parent-teacher partnership and assist the school in its many activities.  The clothing pool and canteen committees are sub-committees of the P&C.  Fundraising and ground maintenance are major area of parent involvement.  As a result of fundraising activities many significant purchases have been made.  Present and future plans are discussed at the meetings and guest speakers keep parents up to date on issues in education.  The annual membership fee is $1.  Updates from the P&C and reminders of the next meeting date are in the school newsletter.

Parent Involvement

Parents are from time to time asked if they can assist in many of the varied programs and activities which the school has organised.

Some of these activities are

  • P&C
  • Assisting with reading groups
  • Changing Homereaders
  • Transporting children to and from school activities
  • Assisting with special events, e.g. craft days
  • Assisting with covering of books and cataloguing in the library
  • Choir, Music and Band

You can arrange an interview time with your child's teacher to discuss any issues or information relating to your child's progress at any time.  You can arrange an appointment via the front office or by sending a note with your child.
